This is truly a Coast-to-Coast event, as the Israel Venture Association (IVA)
is meeting in Tel Aviv at the same time as this LAVA meeting in LA!
Israel is the next hot thing in the venture capital market. New funds are
being developed that will focus hundreds of millions of dollars during 2003
on technology coming out of Israeli companies that have a global reach.
US-based VC Investment in Israel rose from about 5% of the US total in 2000
to 10% in 2002. There are over 80 venture capital funds active in Israel and
many are closely associated with venture funds based in the United States.
Large companies such as Intel, Motorola, Applied Materials, IBM, and
Microsoft have significant R&D centers in Israel - the latest being the
Intel Centrino chip developed in Israel and introduced in Q1 2003. Over 100
Israeli companies have gone public and are traded on Wall Street, including
Check Point (security software), Teva (world's largest generic drug
manufacturer), Mercury Interactive (enterprise testing/monitoring software),
Comverse (network-based multimedia enhanced communications), Amdocs (CRM,
customer care, and billing systems) and Indigo (digital publishing). Israel
is one of the top 20 trading partner countries with the State of California.
This month's panel of accomplished international investors will explore the
current VC market for investment between Israel and California through the
eyes of California VCs, Israeli VCs, and Israeli companies doing business in
California. We will learn about the unique VC funding criteria and the design
of the fund and related successes from following those guidelines. Attendees
will learn about opportunities to invest in Israeli Companies and who are the
key companies to watch, as well as how to attract investment dollars from
Israeli VCs.
