Vietnam’s Telecom Development Plan :
Vietnam has ranked second in Asia in terms of telecom growth rate. By April 2004, Vietnam’s tele-density reached 10.5 per 100 people with 4.7 fixed telephone lines and 3.7 mobile phone users. There are 1.2 million internet subscribers.
As per the government’s plan, by 2005 all cities and provinces shall be connected broadband fiber optic cable. Internet penetration will reach 4-5%. By 2010, all districts and communes shall be connected to the “national information highway” by optic and other broadband transmission means. Telephone density shall reach 15-18 sets per 100 inhabitants at the average rate of the Asian Pacific region. Internet systems will cover 50% of the country’s schools, 100% of the central hospitals and 50% of provincial hospitals.
Vietnam has recently adopted policies to gradually abolish monopoly, open up the market for competition. According to the Government’s strategy, non state businesses will account for 25-30% of the telecom sector by 2005 and 40-45% by 2010.
Israel’s Telecoms
Israel’s Telecommunications Industry
The Israeli telecommunications industry has taken commercial advantage of new technologies that were initially developed for the Israeli military. Israeli companies are active in many telecom equipment segments, as well as involved in R&D projects. Over the past 10 years, the domestic Israeli telecom sector has benefited from a thorough reshaping of government policy, transforming a market once dominated by the government into one that is competitive, customer-focused, and technology driven. The most dramatic development in Israeli telecom in the past six years has been the privatization process of the Bezeq’s monopoly, Israel’s national PTO, and the subsequent introduction of competition into traditional services offered by Bezeq.
